anticapitalist business school
If you’re a person who is heartbroken and enraged about our fucked up world, believes people should live with dignity and free from exploitation, and who still begrudgingly needs money to survive, yeah. Me too.
Welcome. You’re in the right place.
Anticapitalist Business School teaches how to run a small business in alignment with your ethics while making enough money to thrive.
What is Anticapitalist Business School?
Anticapitalist Business School is a robust training program for tiny businesses who refuse to sell their souls to the capitalist machine.
Through 5 weekend intensives, you’ll learn how to: set rates that are sustainable for you and the world, craft offers that show your brilliance legibly, write copy that sells without manipulation, hold sales calls rooted in transparency and consent, do marketing consistently without throwing up, and bring your operations and relationships into alignment with your heartfelt values.
The curriculum for Anticapitalist Business School is built on the foundations of anticapitalist business philosophy. This program combines social justice analysis, emotional skills and small business strategy for a whole-person approach to business. These are my three areas of interest and expertise, and ACBS weaves them together. If we’re going to run anticapitalist businesses that thrive, we need:
Rigorous analysis about systems of oppression, including capitalism. We have to look these systems in the face, acknowledge how they’ve harmed us, and how we’re complicit in them. In an age of environmental collapse and rising authoritarianism, this perspective is more necessary than ever.
Emotional skills for relating to each other with love and holding ourselves with the same kindness. So many of us weren’t trained on these skills growing up, and we certainly haven’t seen them modeled in workplaces! It's up to us to learn and apply them consistently in our relationships with clients, followers, colleagues, employees, and (perhaps most importantly) ourselves.
Business strategies that get to the heart of self-employment. If we want businesses that thrive in the long term, we must know how to have a business model that works, write and speak clearly about our work, do marketing effectively, hold a sales conversation, and align our policies with our values, among many other things.
This is the end of your season of “winging it with cobbled together hacks and tricks with no cohesive vision or strategy for your business”
Welcome to your “intentionally choosing aligned strategies and thriving in life and business” era.
How it works
WEEKEND INTENSIVES: The core of the program is five Weekend Learning Intensives, filled with lectures, discussion, snacks, friends, and dancing. Each month we’ll gather for 12 hours over one weekend. If that sounds intense, well, I can’t say that it isn’t, haha. I’m kind of intense!! Lots of my students are too!! But I’m doing everything I can to make these weekends feel spacious, engaging, and even fun.
We’ll split the time evenly over three days (4 hours Fri, Sat and Sun). Each day will have stretch breaks to care for our bodies, zone-out moments to care for our brains, and silly moments to connect with each other. I’ll be here holding the space securely, so you’ve got permission to show up camera on or off, leave when you need to, halfway pay attention while you’re doing other stuff, etc. No need to sit stock still staring at the screen unblinking for hours. This is a learning space but it’s not a “professional” space, and the expectations for our time together are always lovingly held.
OFFICE HOURS: At the midway point between weekends, we’ll have an Office Hours call for Q+A. Office Hours is an upbeat and engaging 90-minute call (optional but super valuable) for you to get my brain on your specific biz queries that are keeping you stuck. Chances are what’s driving you bananas is also driving someone else B-A-N-A-N-A-S. Bring your toughest questions! We’ll sort them out together.
RECORDINGS: Yes! The Weekend Intensives are recorded if you can’t be there live. Office Hours sessions are recorded and annotated so you can find the info you need again later.
IMPLEMENTATION: You can absorb all the business theory in the world but if you’re not putting it into practice, it’s not doing you any good. ACBS provides tools for self-organizing amongst participants. Students in past programs created ongoing co-working calls, resource directories, and (perhaps best of all) long-lasting friendships with like-minded business owners. You’ll also have the option of being assigned a small group of Biz Buddies to move through the program with.
ONGOING SUPPORT: Office Hours calls will be held once a month in January, February and March 2027 so if you’re learning asynchronously or need more time to get through the course materials, you can still ask questions and get the support you need. It’s part of my anticapitalist commitment to care about you actually finishing the course, and this longer term support is part of that. I don’t just want to take your money and have this program gather dust in your email!
OPTIONAL 1:1 COACHING: There are a few spots for folks who want more in depth support as you work through the course. Add 2 hour-long coaching calls where we can audit your existing business, make a content plan for the year ahead, answer your toughest business questions together, and more. (Fine print: 2 sessions, 1 hour each, expire March 2027, $570, you’ll see the option to add to cart at checkout.)

WHO I AM
My name is Bear Hebert (they/them) and I’ve been self-employed since 2010—full time since 2014. My teenage self would be so bewildered as to how an artistic weirdo like me ended up with a career teaching business (of all things!!), but here we are.
I never went into business to make a kerzillion dollars. Self-employment was my path out from under the thumb of capitalist wage labor. For me, it’s worked really well! And over the past eight years as a business coach, I’ve seen how it can work for others too.
You should know: My work happens in an anti-oppressions framework. I’m always looking at the intersections of power and privilege in the world and in myself; this course will ask you to do the same (with so much love.) After more than a decade in business, I love helping tiny business owners figure out how to run rigorous, compassionate businesses. I long for a future beyond monetary work, but in the meantime, I’m trying to help us all get clients, get paid and get free.
I believe that your work can be liberating for yourself and others, and that mine can be too. I am committed to helping as many people bring this belief to life as I can because, as Robin Wall Kimmerer says, “All our flourishing is mutual.”
Anticapitalist Business School is the current iteration of these beliefs. I hope you’ll join me!
Who it’s for
People who are over traditional business advice that insists you must coerce your customers in order to make a profit
Folks who want to move beyond winging it as their primary business strategy
Tiny businesses who are overtly politicized and values-forward
I welcome service based businesses, people who sell products, folks working with organizations, artists, freelancers, and anyone else interested in radical ways to do business.

Visions for the Future
This is the very first round of Anticapitalist Business School, so there’s much that’s still unknown. It’s possible there will be some kinks to work out as we go. How exciting!
One vision for this program is to launch it as a self-paced offering in 2027, so that people can access it regardless of time zone, learning style, availability, etc.
Additionally, I’m aiming to have guest teacher modules included in all future rounds of the program, as I’m far from the only teacher in this field, but that was beyond my capacity for this first round.
Future rounds will likely be available to alumni at a steeply discounted rate. Details TBD.
